BCD in the parliamentary campaign 2019

The Belarusian Christian Democracy Party drew preliminary results of the Parliament elections campaign 2019. The campaign itself took place in the worst conditions in years.

OSCE, the campaign “Right to Choose” and human rights organisations are unanimous in their negative evaluation of the elections process.
As the Campaign “Right to Choose” stated before the start of the elections campaign “no positive changes towards democratization of the Electoral Law and election process have taken place in Belarus. At the same time, new legislation has been introduced, which even more restricts freedom of assembly and freedom of speech; attacks of the state power structures on independent journalists have continued.”
The Belarusian Chrisitan Democracy Party participated in the parliamentary campaign in order to use the unique legal opportunity to communicate with the voters in the streets and via state mass media, train candidates to the parliament, hold common events with the Center-right Coalition in Belarus, ensure total and continuous observation in one of the electoral constituence with BCD co-chair Volha Kavalkova, as a candidate. In total BCD nominated over 40 candidates to the Parliament, 27 of those received official registration. BCD trained a hundred observers for the “Right to Choose” campaign.
